What is a social teambuilding?
A social teambuilding combines team-building activities with social impact by allowing employees to spend a half or full day volunteering at charities focused on themes such as the environment, refugees, care, the elderly, and more. This can take the form of a social teambuilding event, impact day, impact week, or a collective volunteer day. Teams of 10 to 1,000 people roll up their sleeves in groups to help one or more good causes, support vulnerable groups, or use their professional skills to strengthen volunteer organizations through volunteering.
What is corporate volunteering or employee volunteering?
Employee volunteering or corporate volunteering is an initiative where companies provide their employees with the opportunity to contribute their time, knowledge, and skills to social organizations during working hours, without any compensation. This can range from one-time activities to ongoing commitments, either in groups or individually. This type of volunteering strengthens the bond between employees and enhances their job satisfaction while also providing a tangible expression of corporate social responsibility (CSR). Our community engagement experts help you launch your own local Give a Day platform for employee volunteering to elevate impact and activation to new heights.
Why should employers encourage their employees to volunteer?
More and more companies are getting involved in strengthening good causes, and here are 10 reasons why:
- Doing good feels good: Giving time out of solidarity to the most vulnerable in our society brings back a lot of warmth. You go home with a smile and a tear of emotion.
- Solidarity and teambuilding: Joint volunteering strengthens team spirit and connects colleagues by contributing to the community together.
- Employer branding: Companies with a clear social heart attract talent more easily and retain their staff longer, especially among younger generations who value social engagement.
- External branding: By showing involvement in the community, a company can showcase its human side and create a positive impact.
- Soft skills development: Volunteering offers employees the chance to develop skills outside the office environment, such as empathy and collaboration, which are not easily taught through training.
- Inspiration and cross-pollination: Collaboration between non-profit organizations and companies can lead to valuable exchanges, with both parties learning from each other.
- New insights: By stepping out of their usual social bubble, employees can develop new perspectives, which can contribute to inclusive product and service development.
- Make your teambuildings social: Adding a social dimension to teambuilding activities allows existing budgets to be used more efficiently with a broader impact.
- Local connection: Volunteering connects employees with the local community and can lead to long-term engagement. This strengthens the bond between the company, its employees, and the community.
- Positive impact on wellbeing: Volunteering has a proven positive effect on employee well-being, with benefits such as reduced absenteeism and improved mental health, which has a social value in well-being of €1200 per year.
These points illustrate how social engagement is not only good for the community but also for the growth and well-being of the company and its employees.
