Notre mission
Relais 22 is an association of volunteers in French-speaking Belgium whose mission is to improve the life course of patients and their loved ones by providing them with the necessary information and creating a community of support. This community also aims to attract the attention of public authorities, health professionals and the scientific community so that the 22Q11 microdeletion syndrome is better known and recognised in Belgium and therefore better treated in the future. This community is united by several fundamental values. The first of these is openness to others. Indeed, if the syndrome causes a wide variety of symptoms and produces very different experiences, those affected have a lot to learn from each other. Another of our fundamental beliefs is that a larger community will give us more strength to have a real impact on the lives of people affected by the syndrome and those around them. Our priority today is the development of a united and supportive community. As the disease affects nearly one person in 2,000, we can estimate that there are nearly 7,000 people directly affected by the subject in French-speaking Belgium. Relais22 is a member of 22q11 Europe, a network of 19 national organizations that raise awareness and information about the syndrome.
